Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina is accepting applications for a Land Protection Assistant Intern for a paid, 10-week, full-time summer internship through Conservation Trust for North Carolina’s Diversity in Conservation Internship Program.
The Diversity in Conservation Internship Program seeks to engage college students (two and four year college programs) and recent graduates from underrepresented communities, particularly of Asian, Black, Hispanic, Multi-Racial, and Native American background, in conservation careers.
Direct land protection and stewardship are primary components of Foothills Conservancy’s conservation program and mission to conserve significant natural resources and farmland and to connect people to nature-based recreation and education opportunities. The Land Protection Assistant intern will assist the Land Protection Director with land conservation activities carried out by Foothills Conservancy.
This project offers experience in all aspects of land conservation. Specific tasks & duties vary depending on current needs and specific desires of the successful candidate(s). Duties may include:
- Assist with land protection and acquisition activities. Field experience preferred.
- Update property baseline documentation reports.
- Assist with GIS data management and map making/updating. GIS skills required.
- Assist with other Foothills Conservancy Conservation Program activities as needed.
Preference is given to rising juniors, seniors, and graduate/professional students. For the purpose of this program, a recent graduate has been out of school for less than two years.
Internships run from May – August 2020. Application deadline is February 3rd, 2020.
