Volunteer: Trail Workday

Volunteers needed to help finish hiking trail at Oak Hill Community Park & Forest!

Background: Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina protected 652 acres near downtown Morganton, now called the Oak Hill Community Park and Forest. The park is not open to the public yet, but we are working on building a variety of trails for all to enjoy in the future. The first trail has been cut in and now needs some finishing work.

What to expect: Meet at Oak Hill parking lot. We will have an icebreaker and safety talk. Volunteers will be asked to help trim back branches and roots in the trail corridor. Other tasks include: leaf blowing, raking, light ‘digging’ and trash cleanup. Volunteers should expect to walk +/- 3 miles carrying tools.

Provided: Tools, gloves, water, and light snacks. Also an option to meet afterwards at Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Brewery for a celebratory drink!

What to bring (if you have it!):

  • Close toed shoes

  • Daypack

  • Refillable water bottle

  • Dress in layers

  • A sense of adventure!
