South Mountains Preserve Hike

Winter weather subsided for the weekend as five Foothills Conservancy supporters came from all around—two as far as Raleigh—to hike a section of the South Mountains Headwaters Preserve. Conservation Associate Ryan Sparks led the hikers along an old logging road up to a small knoll. The area was impacted by wildfires in fall of 2016, and hikers got a glimpse into how forests have responded over a year later.

Sank Gap Preserve Hike

17 people joined Land Protection Director Tom Kenney to enjoy sunny skies and excellent views of Foothills Conservancy's Catawba Headwaters Preserve. Residents of the Creston Community in Black Mountain were eager to join Foothills supporters to explore this protected gem situated right in their backyard. Hiking poles were a necessity to navigate the steep grade on this primarily downhill hike.[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id="4" gal_title="3/18-SankGapHike"]
